Getting Started

This tutorial was requested, and in this tutorial I will be using SmartFTP which you can download for free @ SmartFTP website. This tutorial will teach you how to upload files using FTP program.
  • First you will need to launch your FTP program; some of the most popular ones are CuteFTP, & SmartFTP.
  • Once you've launched it, login. You will need to know the URL of your ftp, and your login information. It should look like this: 1. FTP URL: ftp://YOURHOSTDOMAIN.COM .
    2. Login username: If you are hosted by someone, usually your FTP username is YOU@HOSTDOMAIN.COM
    3. Login password: Ask your host.
  • Open up the window where the files that you want to download is located; mine's in my picture folders, named tutorials.
  • Refer to the numbers on the image to the FTP login information above.
  • Click (or highlight CTRL-A if you want to upload more than one file) on the file you want to upload. (4)
  • Now here comes the fun part! People tend to think that this is the hardest part, but this part is the easiest, and most fun of all ^.^
  • Drag and drop the files from the "tutorials" folder to the FTP screen. It will upload automatically by itself.
  • Be patient! When the transfer (an FTP language that means: when the uploading process is done), you will notice (if you use SmartFTP) that at the middle of the screen, it will say something like Transfer Successful! or something like that. This means that the uploading process if successful, and you've done this tutorial correctly.

** Note: When uploading a file, use the ASCII mode, if you're uploading an image, use the BINARY mode. Otherwise, the file will be uploaded through the wrong mode, and the result is crappy. If you're not sure what I mean, see the examples below.
